Friend BD CCMC752

Welcome to the Thursday Create Challenge by Create with Connie & Mary. This week we have a bold color challenge for which I created a friend-birthday card.

The Challenge:

The Friend Birthday Card:

A fun-fold birthday card for a friend using the Stampin' Up! Favored Flowers DSP that has all the colors in the challenge CCMC752.When I saw the color challenge, I thought of this FREE (with a minimum purchase) Sale-A-Bration designer series paper (DSP). It has the three colors in our challenge for this week; Calypso Coral, Blackberry Bliss, and Evening Evergreen. Again this week, I am letting the DSP do the work, and what a beautiful result! The card is an easy fun-fold card, and let’s take another look at it.

The Details:

A side view of a fun-fold birthday card for a friend using the Stampin' Up! Favored Flowers DSP that has all the colors in the challenge CCMC752.

In the photo above, only 4 1/4″ of the 5 1/2″ card front opens. The card base is Evening Evergreen, 11″ x 4 1/4,” scored at 4 1/4″ and 5 1/2″. The 1 1/4″ panel on the front is glued on the inside of the card with liquid glue. This leaves a 4 1/4″ square area on the inside and the front to decorate.

Using only DSP from the Favored Flowers pack, I cut a 4″ square of the Calypso Coral pattern for the card front and a 1″ x 4″ floral pattern for the front left panel. Next, I die-cut a Blackberry Bliss double flower from the DSP with the coordinating die. Using the same die, I cut a piece of Basic Black cardstock (CS) to glue the cut DSP to give it extra stability. I dimensioned the flower onto the Calypso Coral panel using black dimensionals.

To finish the face of the card, I used Blackberry Bliss ink to stamp the “FRIEND” sentiment on a scrap of Very Vanilla CS. Next, I die-cut this piece with the coordinating die, then textured it using the texturing die in the set.

The Inside:

The inside of a fun-fold birthday card for a friend using the Stampin' Up! Favored Flowers DSP that has all the colors in the challenge CCMC752.When looking at beautiful DSP, I like to see ways I can use every inch. Seeing some blooms partially cut off along the edges of the DSP, I die-cut a partial one to add to the inside of the card. Depending on which side has the straight edge dictates where it will be placed on the card, either inside or front. As seen above, I thought it looked best in this position. I stamped the sentiment from Go To Greetings first using Blackberry Bliss ink. I stamped first in case the blooms covered some of the letterings; I’d have the opportunity to cut along the straight edge to narrow the width of the DSP.

Some of you may have noticed that I did not add any ribbon or other embellishments. Some cards are just as pretty without the extras, and I think this is one of those cards. I hope you like my creation and are inspired to make this simple fun-fold card, letting the DSP do all the work for you. CLICK HERE to see what the other design team members have created for you.
