Hello! Welcome to another monthly blog hop by Stamper’s Dozen. I am glad you are here. Our theme this month is birthdays. I have a birthday this month, and a big one. Ending another decade, but better, I am starting a new decade and can hardly wait!
The Card:
I had a relaxing evening doing what I love: coloring and designing a card for today’s blog hop. Abigail Rose designer series paper (DSP) is one of my favorites! This black line image is printed on a Very Vanilla background, and I colored it with Stampin’ Blends. Who wouldn’t love to get this birthday card?
The Details:
The Measurements:
- Card Base – Crumb Cake cardstock (CS) – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, score and fold at 4 1/4″
- Layer 1 – Poppy Parade CS – 4″ x 5 1/4″
- Layer 2 – Soft Suede CS – 3-7/8 x 5-1/8″
- Layer 3 – Crumb Cake CS – 3-5/8″ x 4-7/8″, embossed with Basics 3D embossing folder.
- Layer 4 – DSP – one flower cluster.
- Layer 5 – Crumb Cake CS – 1″ x 3″, die-cut with slashed ends die from Something Fancy Dies.
- Inside Layers:
- layer 1 – Poppy Parade CS – 4″ x 5 1/4″
- layer 2 – Soft Suede CS – 3 3/4″ x 5″
- Layer 3 – Crumb Cake CS – 3 1/2″ x 4 3/4″
- Layer 4 – Abigail Rose DSP – side cut of partial floral cluster.
- Layer 5 – 1/2″ x 2-5/8″ (not needed if you stamp the first line straight) LOL
Assembly:
- Adhere Layer 3 to 2 to 1, then to the card base.
- Color Layer 4 as follows: Large flower – Daffodil Delight with Soft Suede center, Medium flowers – Poppy Parade with Light Black centers. Small flowers – Highland Heather with dark Daffodil Delight centers. Tiny flowers – Dark Highland Heather. Leaves – Granny Apple Green. Fussy cut around the perimeter (no great detail), then color the background with Crumb Cake. Glue to Layer 3.
- Use Soft Suede ink to stamp the sentiment from the Amazing Year stamp set, then dimensional onto Layer 3, as shown.
- Add a small bow made from Orchid Oasis 1/8″ metallic woven ribbon using a mini glue dot.
- Adhere Inside Layer 2 to 1, then to the inside of the card. (photo below shows the inside of the card)
- Color the partial floral cluster the same as Layer 4. Glue to Inside layer 3. Use Soft Suede ink to stamp the sentiments from the Amazing Year stamp set, adding Layer 5 only if needed.LOL!
A Close-Up View:
The photo above shows an up-close look at the coloring of the flowers as well as the background of the DSP. I do this often when I do not want to do the detailed fussy cutting. Using nearly the same color as the layer to which I will glue it allows for less precise cutting, so I call it the “forgiveness” technique. Have you done this too?
The Inside of the Birthday Card:
DSPs with floral images often have partial images along the edges of the 12″ x 12″ paper. What do you do with those? I like to cut them out and use them inside my cards to pull them together. It is a way to make the inside of the card as pretty as its front. I think the colors in the photo are a bit off because the floral background looks so light. It is more subtle IRL. And, you have to love when you have everything finished, but the sentiment you stamp is crooked. It happened. I fixed it. I think it emphasizes “a wonderful friend.” It was meant to be. LOL!!
