Welcome to the monthly Maui Trip Achievers Blog Hop. I am happy to join a group of Stampin’ Up!® Demonstrators from around the world that have achieved the Stampin’ Up!® incentive trip to Maui. Together, we want to celebrate this achievement by taking part in this monthly hop, which helps us continue to inspire you creatively.
Thank you for being here today! I love chocolate cake, so I had to make a chocolate-cake-card with the Happy Birthday To You Sale-A-Bration (SAB) set. I employed the Bleaching Technique to add the yellow roses on the cake. Let’s get to the details, shall we?
The Card
The Measurements
- Soft Suede – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″, scored and folded at 4 1/4 (or, 11″ x 4 1/4″, scored and folded at 5 1/2″); 3″ x 2 3/4″ (to emboss the cake)
- Crushed Curry – 5″ x 3 3/4″(front panel)
- Very Vanilla – 5″ x 3 3/4″ (inside)
- Gold Foil Sheets – scrap to die-cut cake stand and leaves.
The Details
- To begin, after using the Embossing Buddy, I stamped Happy Birthday with Versamark ink, positioned as shown, and heat embossed it with Gold Embossing Powder. Then, after horizontally dry embossing the panel with the Subtles 3D Embossing Folder, I glued it to the card front.
- Next, I die-cut the cake stand and leaves from a Gold Foil Sheet scrap.
- After using the Embossing Buddy, I stamped the cake image with Versamark ink onto the small piece of Soft Suede cardstock and added White Embossing Powder. After heat-setting and allowing it to cool, I used my smallest, cheap paintbrush to apply a little bit of household chlorine bleach to the flowers and leaves. I was careful not to go outside the embossed lines. Once the bleach dried and the Soft Suede cardstock was bleached to what looks like Crushed Curry, I used my Granny Apple Green Stampin’ Write Marker to color the leaves. These markers are water-based and will not paint over the embossing; I just blotted the ink off the embossed area with a tissue, whereas, if I were to have used Blends, the white embossing would also have been colored green. I die-cut the cake with the coordinating Birthday Dies. Before attaching the cake stand to the cake, I first cut off the stamped cake stand. I managed double-duty usage from my dimensionals by using them to adhere the gold leaves to the cake before using them to attach the cake to the card front.
Finishing Touches
For the finishing touch, I added Gold Metallic Pearls to the three flower centers and two more below the sentiment.
Tip: When you decide you want to try the Bleaching Technique, get out small scraps of different colored cardstock, and add a little bleach to them. Once dry, check out what color they are bleached. You may be amazed!
Thanks again for hopping along with us all today! I hope I have inspired you to try a new technique. Let me know, in the comments, if you have any questions. Now, click on the name below mine, Judy Garza, to be taken to the next blog for more inspiration!
