Sending Positive Thoughts

Hello, Stampers!  Today’s card is sending positive thoughts and feel-good wishes to each one of you!  I designed this card for a swap using products from the new January-June Mini Catalog.  Well, it is called a mini catalog, but if fact, it is not so mini!  It has 74 pages of goodness!!  I made this card using the stamp set “Positive Thoughts,” found on page 23.

The Card

 The Measurements

Card base is Sahara Sand – 8 1/2″ x 5 1/2″ scored and folded at 4 1/4.”

Panel 2 is Soft Suede – 5 1/8″ x 3 7/8″ and 1″ x 3 3/8″ (base of sentiment)

Panel 3 is Whisper White – 5″ x 3 3/4″ and  3/4″ x 3 1/8″ (to stamp sentiment)

Petal Pink for middle sentiment layer – 7/8″ x 3 1/4″

The Details

I used only two different ink pads to create this card.  First I stamped the large leafy image by inking the stamp with Sahara Sand and stamping once onto scratch paper before stamping onto the panel. (a technique called “stamping-off”)  This makes a lighter shade of the ink-color used.  Next, I stamped the flower that looks like a Chrysanthemum with “full strength” Sahara Sand ink.  It may be difficult to see but look in the upper corners for the difference in the two shades.  Finally, I stamped the butterflies with Soft Suede ink.  Stamping in this fashion is known as “random stamping” however, it is not as “random” as the definition implies.  I usually try to use an odd number of the same images on the piece and, also intentionally go off the edges.

Up-Close Look

As you can see (along with the small smudge; sorry.) before adding the sentiment that was stamped using Soft Suede ink, I tied a length of 1/4″ Metallic-Edged Petal Pink ribbon around the card front.  Then, for the finishing touch, I added Champagne rhinestones to the butterfly bodies and added the layered sentiment with dimensionals.  I hope you like my card today and are inspired to try random stamping with this set.  Let me know if I can help you.
