Candy Canes CCMC694

Create with Connie and Mary Design Team Badge

Hello, and welcome to the Thursday Challenge by Create with Connie and Mary.  Today we have a color challenge using OUR favorite Christmas colors, and  I have designed a Christmas card with candy canes.

The Challenge:

The Card:

A side view of a Christmas Greetings card using Bumblebee, Old Olive and Cherry Cobbler cardstock, representing the my favorite Christmas color combination thereby, fulfilling the CCMC694 Thursday challenge using all Stampin' Up! products.I love the colors Old Olive, Cherry Cobbler, and Bumblebee when used in combination. The “hardest” part of this card is die-cutting the pieces. After stamping four candy canes with Cherry Cobbler ink, I die-cut them, along with six Old Olive sprigs, with the Stockings dies. Once again, I used Cherry Cobbler ink to stamp the sentiment onto a 4 3/4″ x 7/8″ piece of Basic White cardstock (CS), then I used my Snips to angle the ends.

The Circles:

A Christmas Greetings card using Bumblebee, Old Olive and Cherry Cobbler cardstock, representing the my favorite Christmas color combination thereby, fulfilling the CCMC694 Thursday challenge using all Stampin' Up! products. The first time I saw the Split Circle technique, it intrigued me. It is not nearly as difficult as it appears to be. For this card, I used three Layering Circles dies; the next to the smallest, the fifth smallest (count the smallest as #1 then number each one as they get larger) and, the next to the largest circle die.

CUT:

  • Next to the smallest die: cut one Cherry Cobbler and one Bumblebee circle.
  • The medium size (fifth smallest); cut one Old Olive circle.
  • The next to the largest die: cut one Cherry Cobbler and on Bumblebee circle.

Next, I cut each circle in half, making two separate piles. Lining up three half-circles, I kept the straight edges even and glued them all to one side, atop one another.  Once I had two of the half-circle trios, I placed them on the Tasteful Textile embossed piece of Basic White cardstock, a little ways apart, and tried to make sure the lines of the circles were lined up.

Finishing:

I placed dimensionals on the back of the sentiment strip but left the backs intact. The sentiment strip helped me place and glue the sprigs and candy canes in place. Finally, I uncovered the dimensionals and added the sentiment to the card, covering the gap between the upper and lower half-circle trios.

Up-Close:

I guess I forgot to tell you that I colored the candy canes with a Cherry Cobbler Stampin’ Blends Marker, using a very light touch because the alcohol markers tend to bleed. As my final touch, I added two of the Decorative Matte Dots on the sentiment layer. Now it is time for you to go HERE to check out what the other Design Team members have created for you.  Below is a list of the products I used to create this card. Many of them are on the retiring list and will not be available after January 3, 2022.

  1. I just love this card! Colors are so fresh for Christmas, especially down here where the temperature can be 80-90 at Christmas! The design is so fun! Terrific card.
